Jewel Box

Design Team: AECOM Architecture | Carlos Madrid, Michael Frederick

Los Angeles, California : 2013
Part of an ongoing effort to improve aging infrastructure in the Los Angeles area this projects proposes a reboot of one of the existing security checkpoints at Los Angeles International Airport. The proposal capitalizes on existing but wasted interior volume above the security screening area creating a jewel box moment for people to wait in as they proceed towards their flight. The client was presented with several levels of finish to accommodate different budgets, however each scheme stays true to the initial concept thus achieving more with less.
